As we have put Bobbins on the website last week we thought we give you some tips on making your bobbin work for you the best way that it can.
Always make sure that the bobbin, is correct for your machine. As they are all slightly different. its amazing how much a millimetres can alter and possible damage your machine.
So if you have for example a Janome machine make sure you purchase bobbins for the Janome machine. Not the cheapest option as you think they all look the same.

Another tip is that when you are filing your bobbin, only use one colour, one make of thread. Don't be lazy and add different colours, on top of the bobbin. If you are sewing and you need to change the colour of the bobbin thread use a fresh empty bobbin. As every thread is a different weight and will wind on the bobbin in a different way. This shall make you machine play ball.

I always use the same thread top and bottom on the machine .

Do you have a top tip for when you use bobbins.

I learnt the lesson about not buying cheap bobbins for my Janome some years ago. The cheap ones do look the same, but they’re not! It might not damage your machine, but it does affect stitch quality.

I feel any craft is for anyone regardless of age.

I hope that we encourage everyone to have a go at anything they like to have a go at.

With knitting there is so many bright colours and exciting item to knit. from very plain and simple patterns to the most advance like cable and other stitches rather than the basic purl and (garter stitch) plain ?

You can tell I'm not a seasoned knitter

What to be aware of when purchasing your New pair of scissors.

If you can always try out the performance of them. Even take a sample of fabric that you normally use, as cutting 100% cotton fabric is different from silk fabrics. As dressmakers and quilters use different type and lengths of scissors.

You also will feel the weight of them as well. Also the handle size, are they comfortable when you are cutting. Do you have enough room for your hand So you can decide if you cut a lot of fabric or crafting items then this may be a factor.

Also types and brands are slightly different but all look the same. For example the Prym scissors all have the blade going into the handle, so that you are holding the blades without you realising it. It give the scissors extra strength when cutting. This is what is in the 2nd picture a cross sectional view of the Prym scissors .

Test the tension of the scissors just opening and closing them. The blades should not be too loose or stiff.

The best advise is from someone that uses the brand and scissors that you are looking for. This is the best way as they may allow you to try their pair so that you are able to purchase if it suits you.
