Grand opening of the first shop
Another busy month here with a weekend end away at AFCI-UK trade event. Meeting up with some potential new suppliers and some that may sell some of my items. But that is all in the future and we shall see. It was great to spend some time with my craft related friends, catching up on what they have been doing and their plans for the future. We can get to do all again next year in 23rd-24th June 2019.
Well what a fantastic turn out at the grand opening of SeaHorse Quilting where we are supplying the Haberdashery for the shop. The picture is of (left) Sarah Ali Choudhury, award winning Chef and Influential women 2017 Sharron Ward and (right) Marion Jacques wh both own and run Seahorse Quilting.
Cutting of the ribbon happened at 1pm where Sarah made a speech and pronounced the opening the shop. Everyone was welcomed in with some basic nibbles and a range of refreshments to choose from while being able to look around at the fabrics and haberdashery.
It was great to mingle with present and potential new customers and friends and we are looking forward to joining some of the sit and sew sessions to see what everyone is looking for and what people have on their wish list. Seahorse quilting have started a new sit and sew session on a Wednesday afternoon between 2-4 pm where we quilting a sew a row.
Not sure what a “Sew a Row” is. This is where lots of different technique in sewing, from paper piecing, to sewing curves, “Y” seams and more are sewn a row at a time and gradually your quilt expands and develops over time. It is a great way of making a quilt as your sewing a row at a time. Your learn or become refreshed on these techniques with patterns that you may have not done before and help with colour auditioning – on of Sharon favourite things. One of the ladies has already produced a stunning sew a row, which is up in the shop at present – certainly a must see. We have the help of three books doing our own version of it. There is never a wrong way of doing a sew a row. Each quilt shall be very different, as you may want to try a certain technique which others have not done. As we sew not only in techniques but the colour that what we want. I’m looking forward to Paper piecing this week. We arrive at 2 pm and spend 2 hours sewing with a very earn drink supplied and chat as well it is a very relaxed afternoon. For a minimal fee. To find the shop it is located at Canford Heath Neighbour Centre, BH17 9DW (next to Asda). Hope you shall be able to join up next week to start your new quilt.
Until next time Happy Sewing
Hope you have had a good couple of weeks with all this fine weather about and that you are still stitching, quilting or sewing when you have had time. We here at LaceyMay’s Haberdashery have had another couple of very busy weeks, this time we have been helping to supply Seahorse Quilting Fabrics suppling them with a large range of haberdashery items for their new shop.
The new shop which is at Canford Heath Neighbourhood Centre in Poole, Dorset which is a parade of shops opposite an Asda superstore. It is a great location to be in. The main bonus is all that free unlimited car parking. The shop itself is large and very light and airy with 6 large tables ideal to be able to spread your work over. And with a list of workshops just recently come out for morning or afternoon sessions of a mix of classes or bring your own quilting work along to get help from others and also from Sharon and Marion who are always on hand with their years of experience between them.
As we are supplying the haberdashery items for them, we are having a chance to learn more about “what you need” the items that you cannot do without and a few of the luxury items. This also means that if you are local to Poole that you are able to look at the items that you have seen on line and get a feel if the item is what you are after.
Is there an item that you are looking for or that you are having problems trying to locate an item, then give us a call, email email@example.com or pop into the shop and let us know what you are been looking for to aid you in your sewing or knitting hobby. Then we shall do our utmost to locate and supply the item for you.
We have been very successful over the weekend with not one but two items located fairly quickly, with happy customers leaving the shop over the weekend.
Do you belong to a quilting, sewing, embroidery, WI or Townswomen guild or even a charity or other large group that have exhibitions or open evenings that would be interested in have a mobile haberdashery tools stand visiting you. Then please contact us on email at firstname.lastname@example.org as we are looking to attend small and large events of all types all over the Dorset. Not in that area then please contact us and we shall see if we are able to attend if you are in the south then there is always a chance.
